Browsers
A browser is an application program that
provides a way to look at and interact with all the information on
the World Wide Web. Technically, a Web browser is a client
program that uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) to
make requests of Web servers throughout the Internet on
behalf of the browser user.

Domain Name
On the Web, the domain name is that part
of the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) that tells a domain
name server using the DNS (Domain Name System) whether and where
to forward a request for a Web page. The domain name is mapped to
an IP address (which represents a physical point on the Internet).
Web Hosting
Hosting is the business of housing,
serving, and maintaining files for one or more web sites.
More important than the computer space that is provided for web
site files is the fast connection to the Internet. Using a
hosting service lets many companies share the cost of a fast
Internet connection for serving files. Each web site can
have its own domain name and set of e-mail addresses.
FTP
File Transfer Protocol (FTP), a standard
Internet protocol, is the simplest way to exchange files between
computers on the Internet. FTP is commonly used to transfer
Web page files from their creator to the computer that acts as
their server for everyone on the Internet. It's also
commonly used to download programs and other files to your
computer from other servers.

Anti-Virus
Antivirus (or "anti-virus")
software is a class of program that searches your hard drive and
floppy disks for any known or potential viruses. If you
currently do not have an updated program, I recommend the

Plug-Ins
Plug-in applications are programs that
can easily be installed and used as part of your Web browser.
A plug-in application is recognized automatically by the browser
and its function is integrated into the main HTML file that is
being presented.

Engines
On the Internet, a search engine is a
coordinated set of programs that include:
A spider (also called a "crawler" or a "bot")
that goes to every page or representative pages on every Web
site that wants to be searchable and reads it, using hypertext
links on each page to discover and read a site's other pages.
A program that creates a huge index (sometimes called a
"catalog") from the pages that have been read.
A program that receives your search request, compares it to the
entries in the index, and returns results to you.
